The causes of a criminal Mind Nature versus Nurture In todays society, one will find that there are many different factors that go into the development of a criminal mind, and it is impossible to single out one particular cause of criminal behavior. Criminal behavior often stems from both biological and environmental factors. In many cases criminals share similar physical traits which the general population do not usually have. For example criminals have smaller brains than properly adjusted individuals. However biological reasons cannot solely be the cause of criminal behavior. Therefore, one must look to other sources as to how a criminal mind is developed. Therefore, one must consider other possible factors that may create a criminal mind, to come to a reasonable decision as to how one is developed. It is proven that there is a connection between diet and crime. There is a strong correlation between poor nutrition and violent crime. Nutrition can often further aggravate a persons condition. The L.A. probation department, which is the nations largest correctional agency, banned all toxins such as chocolate bars, sugars, and refined foods. By doing that, it was proven that a dietary change to healthy food can lower anti-social behavior by about forty six percent. Sugar consumption can cause a chain reaction in the body leading to anti-social behavior because the pancreas releases insulin which makes excess glucose. When John Hinckley tried to kill president Regean he was living on a diet of fast food, coffee, and sugary soft drinks. This shows that our biochemical make-up can also contribute to a persons motivation to criminal behavior but the way our body reacts to certain environmental toxins is not a valid explanation for criminal behavior.
